Points of Clarification Based on Recent Media Reporting

  1. The AG’s Complaint omits key facts about Gore’s proactive steps to handle PTFE responsibly and to minimize potential exposures and emissions.
  2. For more than two years, Gore has been actively cooperating with the Maryland Department of the Environment to investigate and address potential environmental impacts in Cecil County, where Gore is a longstanding and integral member of the community.
  3. In addition, Gore has been working with Maryland regulators for decades and we remain committed to continuing those efforts, guided by the facts, data, and science that are central to sound environmental stewardship practices.
  4. Gore has committed millions of dollars to investigate for the potential presence of PFOA in ground water near several of our Maryland campuses.
  5. Gore has also made a significant financial commitment to provide water to those residents in our sampling area.
  6. Gore will continue to invest to ensure it follows all of the best practices in investigating and remediating PFOA.
  7. Gore does not now and never has manufactured PFOA. Statements to the contrary are false.
  8. Gore only purchases raw materials from suppliers who commit to not using PFOA as a manufacturing aid.
  9. Gore has launched and maintained an active water sampling protocol around its facilities in Cecil County. We are conducting this sampling in accordance with plans we submitted to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).
  10. Gore has sampled more than 90 residential wells in the areas identified in the plans submitted to MDE. A majority of the results came back less than 20 PPT.
