Cherry Hill Site
The site plays a central role in materials innovation, testing, and small-batch production for advanced applications.
About the Cherry Hill Site
Located on Singerly Road in Elkton, Cherry Hill is Gore’s oldest manufacturing and research location in Cecil County.
Our Cherry Hill site plays a key role in the development of materials that are later transferred to other facilities for end-product manufacturing. The site supports product innovation, materials testing, and small-scale production across multiple business divisions. It is home to advanced laboratories, pilot-scale equipment, and experienced technical teams with deep institutional knowledge.
What We’re Testing For
- We are conducting a site-wide investigation for the presence of PFOA (a type of PFAS) in both groundwater and soil
- All sampling and analysis is done in close collaboration with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE)
Recent Activities
- Groundwater levels were gauged and samples were collected from monitoring wells on and near the site to further evaluate conditions.
- A Conceptual Site Model Report has been submitted to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) for review.
- Feedback from MDE will be used to inform next steps.

An Overview of Monitoring Activity
- Over 30 monitoring wells have been installed around the Cherry Hill facility — including shallow, bedrock, and transition zone wells to track PFOA at multiple depths.
- Wells are placed strategically near streams, ditches, and farmland. This ensures Gore and regulators can observe how PFOA behaves in varied soil types and water conditions.
- Groundwater data is color-coded by PFOA concentration so trends can be easily identified — from low levels near the detection limit to elevated readings that require additional focus.
- Soil borings across the Cherry Hill campus help assess whether any residual PFOA remains in the surface environment and whether that could impact groundwater over time.
- A residential sampling area was defined around the campus, and Gore has offered private well testing to nearby homes to provide reassurance and information to the community.
