Proactively Addressing PFOA in Groundwater Near Gore’s Cherry Hill Facility

What the Data Shows and How Gore Is Responding

Since learning of the presence of PFOA in groundwater near our Cherry Hill facility, Gore has taken swift, science-based action to understand the issue and support residents, while working closely with regulatory agencies.

Testing to Date & What This Means

Through testing and advanced scientific methodologies, Gore is working to understand and address PFOA in groundwater near its facilities in Cecil County. As part of this ongoing effort, sitespecific data has defined an area of impact in the immediate vicinity of Cherry Hill. Gore submitted a proposal to Maryland Department of Environment to remediate the impacted area at the Cherry Hill location while we continue our investigation, groundwater monitoring and community support efforts.

In our efforts to date, we’ve…
This allows us to…
1. Collected 400+ samples across 230+ locations in Cecil County. Build a comprehensive picture of groundwater conditions and identify where PFOA is present and where it exceeds today’s regulatory standards.
2. Installed 100+ monitoring wells across Gore facilities, with 30+ wells located near Gore’s Cherry Hill facility. Monitor groundwater conditions over time and track changes within the defined area of impact in the immediate vicinity of Cherry Hill and other Gore locations in Cecil County.
3. Collected 95+ residential water samples in Cecil County. Understand potential impacts on nearby homes and provide immediate support measures such as providing bottled water and installing Point of Entry Treatment (POET) systems for participants of our sampling efforts.
4. Mapped groundwater flow. Determine the most effective locations for remediation by correlating water sampling results with groundwater flows.
5. Collaborated with Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) on sampling plans, data reviews, and regulatory alignment. Ensure our findings align with regulatory expectations.

Our Remediation Plan

While investigation activities in the immediate vicinity of Cherry Hill continue, we’re moving to the remediation process in accordance with the Interim Remedial Action Plan submitted to the Maryland Department of the Environment. Investigation and monitoring efforts at our other facilities are also ongoing as part of our broader, science- and data-driven testing approach.

Install Extraction Wells Wells will capture groundwater from the defined impact area.
Coordinate Construction & Site Logistics
WE ARE HERE
Collaborate with local officials on timing, containment, and necessary permitting.
Treat Groundwater Onsite Water to be pulled through treatment systems to remove PFOA and other PFAS compounds.
Verify Regulatory Standard of Water Treated water will be assessed to ensure it meets today’s regulatory requirements.
Safely Discharge Water Water will be discharged and returned following treatment.
Reduce and Contain PFOA Over Time The pump-and-treat system will be designed to capture PFOA and steadily reduce concentrations.
Update the Community Throughout Our Work Open houses for residents to ask questions and understand the remediation process.
